Sandra Perkovic is hoping to win gold for Croatia.

Croatia’s Sandra Perkovic has been through quite a bit in the past couple of years.  After setting numerous records in the discus throw, she was hit with a six month suspension last year following a failed doping test and all of her records were thrown out.  She had no knowledge that she had been taking anything illegal, but nonetheless, the ban stood up.  Perkovic returned to the circuit this year and has returned to form, making her a favorite to be on the medal podium.  When qualifying begins for the discus on Friday, Perkovic will definitely feel as though she has a point to prove and will want to distance herself from the field as quickly as possible.  If she continues her recent form in London, there will be not a single athlete capable of stopping her.

Perkovic has been synonymous with success throughout her career from the time when she was in the junior ranks up to the present day.  She has regularly been on the podium at both levels and has consistently improved her performances throughout the years, which has made her into one of the elite throwers in the world.  Some may consider this to be a bit far-fetched since she has only been on the senior circuit for two years or so, but she has rapidly improved and is ready to challenge for a medal in London, with many contending that she is one of the favorites to take home the gold.  This should not come as a surprise though, as she is a two-time defending European champion, whose career is on the rise again [READ MORE]
