Writer Has Bold Take On Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark Player Ranking
Grace Hollars/IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

The 2024 WNBA season is set to tip off on Tuesday night and all eyes will be on Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark. Her presence has been felt since being selected No. 1 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft as she has already made a massive impact without playing her first regular season game.

Caitlin Clark is a major reason for the league having chartered flights for every team starting this season. Her popularity has been great for the WNBA, as teams are selling out games and looking to move to larger arenas to accommodate all the fans who want to purchase tickets.

On the gambling front, there isn’t a team garnering more wagers than the Indiana Fever. They are a popular bet to win the WNBA title and Caitlin Clark is lapping the field when it comes to MVP votes. She is also the heavy favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award.

Expectations are through the roof heading into her first season as a professional, but some bold takes have been shared about her. One WNBA writer believes Caitlin Clark will struggle to score consistently early in her career as she adjusts to the physicality of the game.

Recently, another writer shared a bold take on the Indiana Fever star. Jack Maloney of CBS Sports shared his power rankings for the top players in the WNBA heading into the season. Surprising to many, Caitlin Clark wasn’t on that list.

“As usual, the list skews older. No rookies made it, not even Clark. One of the toughest parts of this exercise is balancing the here and now with the future, and while Clark may push her way into the top 25 by the end of the season, those who have proven it already get the benefit of the doubt,” Maloney wrote.

That is a fair assessment and reasoning on Maloney’s part. For all the hype and excitement surrounding Caitlin Clark, she still needs to prove herself at the professional level. The accolades and awards she won at Iowa are very impressive, but she has to write another story in the WNBA.

That story will begin on Tuesday night when the Indiana Fever travel to take on the Connecticut Sun. Caitlin Clark will be making her regular season debut in front of a sold-out crowd, as the Sun announced their first home-opening sellout in 21 years.
