By pushing his decision until 2025, Mick Foley is hinting at his answer on a final match

Mick Foley recently floated the notion of returning to the ring for one final match. The hardcore legend named John Moxley and Matt Cardona as potential opponents. He admitted the contest would likely be held by AEW due to their relaxed rules.

When speaking on "Highspots Sign It Live," Foley gave an update on his potential swansong. He noted how his weight loss journey isn't going according to plan. As such, he's delaying his decision on potentially competing in one final match until early 2025.

"Yeah, but I'd have to lose an extraordinary amount of weight, and it's not falling off like I hoped it would," Foley said. h/t to Fightful for the transcription. "I'm going to have to re-examine where I am at a certain point. It's not about the money. I want to have a fun match, but I am having trouble. I've been working out. I feel better, moving better, but it's not showing up, as of yet, on the scale. I'm not sure. I'll have an answer by the beginning of the year."

Foley is 58 years old. The longer he leaves his decision on a return to the ring, the more of a longshot it appears to be. Yes, wrestlers have been known to compete into their 60s, yet none of them had the milage of Foley. Furthermore, none of them were looking to embark on a no-holds-barred contest against one of the most physically active wrestlers in the world.

From a nostalgia standpoint, seeing Foley back in the ring would be fantastic. When looking at things realistically, though, his indecision appears to be the prelude to his actual decision. Foley is a legend. He doesn't need another match. If he chooses to go ahead with it, there will be millions of interested viewers. However, the risk may outweigh the reward. The longer he waits to make his choice, the less likely it is that we'll ever see Foley competing in a wrestling ring.
