Robert Roode was given the okay to wrestle, but the WWE superstar has decided to retire from competing inside a pro wrestling ring.

Robert Roode Opts To Retire Despite Being Medically Cleared To Wrestle Again

Bobby Roode last wrestled at a live event in June 2022. He lost to Omos in what will now be his final match.

The 47 year old has officially decided to retire from competition inside the ring. Although, he is not departing with WWE.

Instead, he will continue to work for them in a backstage role.

In six months, Roode underwent two neck fusion surgeries. He had a C5/6 cervical fusion in November 2022 and then a C4/5 fusion in May 2023.

For many, one of those surgeries would be the end of a career.

While on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, Roode commented how he knew such an operation would likely end his career.

Just Cleared To Return

“Ironically enough, I just got green-lighted,” said Roode. “The fusion has completely fused.”

“So, as far as like, looking at it from a medical point of view, it’s safe to get back in the ring, I guess. But, at almost 48 years old, given the opportunity that I’ve been given now to work as a producer, which was my goal coming to WWE almost eight years ago.”

“I’m quite happy doing this. And I feel like I’ve had a good run, as they say, and I’m happy to do what I’m doing now.”

“I think everybody would like to have one last match, right? But sometimes you just, when the wheels fall off, the wheels fall off.”

“That’s the nature of the beast in this sport. In this industry.”

Roode joined the company at 40 years old, which is not the prime age for a wrestler as the WWE schedule is loaded. He won gold in NXT and the main roster, so he accomplished tons in such a short time.

Before WWE, he was a major star in TNA. Either WWE or TNA would be lucky to have his knowledge.

So, after Robert Roode confirms retirement, we wish him nothing but the best and hope he stays healthy.
