Shawn Spears announces AEW departure

Shawn Spears is no longer with AEW.

The 42-year-old revealed the news today via social media, writing that the departure was his decision. He thanked the organization and fans for "5 years of growth and personal development."

Spears wrote:

What a wonderful time it has been. Thank you @AEW

for allowing me to be there from the ground level. It’s been a fantastic 5 years of growth and personal development. This is a personal choice and one that is best for me and my family at this time. Thank you to all, staff and talent alike for the memories #10

Most importantly, to the incredible fans of ALL professional wrestling: I love you guys. I really do.

Spears hadn't wrestled for AEW since the Over Budget Charity Battle Royale on the All Out kickoff show in September. Prior to that, his last match was in July when he lost a TNT title bout to Luchasaurus at Battle of the Belts VII in Calgary, AB, Canada.

Spears and his wife Cassie Lee announced on Sunday that they are expecting their second child.
