The Kentucky Wildcats got #9 today, as in their 9th commitment in the 2014 football class. While on an official visit to Lexington, Stone Mountain, GA prospect Jared Tucker committed to playing for Mark Stoops & Co. come next fall. Tucker stands at 5’11”, 175 lbs. and is rated a 3-star safety by Rivals. Tucker is ranked 44th at his position, and 41st best prospect in the state of Georgia. The Wildcats beat out a ton of top schools for Tucker, including the likes of Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Ohio State, Louisville, South Carolina, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Since Rivals began doing their rankings, Kentucky has never appeared in their Top-10 recruiting rankings for football. All of that changed today with Tucker’s commitment.Kentucky now has the 10th best recruiting class in the nation. Oddly enough, Georgia used to be a very heavily recruited area for the previous coaching staff. A lot of former ‘Cats used to call Georgia home before making their way up I-75 to play in Lexington. Stoops’ main recruiting grounds is obviously Ohio. He has now received his first and only commit from the state of Georgia. For proof that not every trend is set in stone, the ‘Cats recently picked up a commitment from linebacker Kobie Walker from Maryland. It’s pretty obvious to anyone following the trend, Mark Stoops really wants to fill those voids on defense. When he was hired at Kentucky, he noted that he is more of a “defensive” guy. With offensive coordinator Neal Brown and TE coach Vince Marrow, Kentucky will be just fine on offense. Stoops’ main focus, especially for 2014, is getting that defense up to par with the rest of the SEC. Tucker’s commitment to the ‘Cats is a small stepping stone towards that direction.
