Derek Chisora (35-13, 23 KOs) and Otto Wallin (27-2, 15 KOs, 1 NC) will soon face each other in a heavyweight clash.
Their bout headlines a Queensberry Promotions card at the Co-op Live in Manchester, England. Boxing fans in the United Kingdom can catch the action live on TNT Sports. The rest of the world can do so with DAZN.
Both men spoke at a press conference ahead of their fight on Saturday night. Below is some of what they said.
“This a big fight, for me and for ‘The Viking,'” said Chisora.
“He’s not a viking anymore. He lives in New York. He’s a New Yorker now. Don’t know [why] he’s coming out with ‘The Viking.’ The Co-op Arena, I’ve never boxed there so I’m excited about it. It’s a good, good venue. I love Manchester and I’m buzzing for this fight. It’s going to be one exciting fight, I tell you that now. Do not sit down, ’cause we gonna drown this guy. We gonna go hard. I know for a fact that he hasn’t trained the way I expected him to train for me, so I’m excited. We’re gonna push it. We’re not going to even stop. As I said before, I just want to fight.”
“I just want to thank Frank [Warren] and Queensberry for having me,” said Wallin. “This [is] a great opportunity so I’m really appreciative of it and it feels good. I mean, I’ve been on the road before. I’m expecting a tough crowd but, I think it’s going to be a good time. I’m ready for this fight and I have some Swedish people coming also, some Vikings. I think it would be a good atmosphere and looking forward to it.”
Chisora has won three of his last four fights, but he may be biting off more than he can chew here. Kubrat Pulev and Gerald Washington were both older than Chisora when he beat them. While Joe Joyce is younger, it is only by two years. In other words, expect Chisora to have a tough fight against someone who is still a fairly good heavyweight and has less mileage. Wallin should be able to outbox his opponent over 12 rounds. That being said, Chisora will not make things easy and will do what he can to get the win till the very end. Wallin to win via unanimous decision against a valiant Chisora.
