Top Rank have announced that 13-time U.S. national amateur champion Steven “Kid Dynamite” Navarro (1-0, 1 KO) has signed a long-term promotional contract with the promotional giant. The 20-year-old junior bantamweight phenom from Inglewood, California, is scheduled to make his Top Rank debut in June following his successful professional debut on April 6, which saw him knock out Jose Lopez in the sixth round. Top Rank and Navarro have both spoken on the deal.
The 20-year-old prodigy will be eager to impress as part of the Top Rank stable, starting with a fight in June. His debut was impressive as he showed great ring IQ, as he picked his punches well and dismantled his opponent before winning by stoppage in the sixth and final round.
You could see his excellent amateur pedigree. Navarro mixed his punches well, attacking the head and body and showed good lateral movement. It was a memorable debut for a fighter that can go very far.
Bob Arum was full of excitement regarding the latest addition to the Top Rank stable: “Steven is an exceptional talent who comes from a great boxing family, and I believe he has all the tools to become a world champion.” He continued: “I can’t wait to watch his professional journey unfold.”
Navarro’s manager, Vishare Mooney was full of praise for his fighter: “Steven has massive star potential. He’s fun to watch in the ring with masterful footwork, unexpected combinations, and excellent boxing IQ.”
Mooney continued: “Outside the ring, he is very charismatic and well-liked by fans and sponsors. Guided by Top Rank, the sky’s the limit.”
Reflecting on the deal, Navarro said: My road to becoming a world champion is just beginning, and I’m ready to work hard and show the world what I’m made of.”
The Los Angeles native continued: “I intend to make a statement and win world titles at junior bantamweight. I believe Top Rank is the best promoter to showcase my talents. It’s been an amazing ride from being an amateur since I was nine and winning all those championships, to stopping a tough opponent in my pro debut, and now signing with the legendary Top Rank.”
He added: “I have a great team, especially my dad, who’s been by my side all along. We’re about to do great things.”
