Joe Joyce vs Derek Chisora: Who Wins?
PA Images/Alamy Images

This weekend will feature a heavyweight clash between a fighter trying to regain momentum and one looking to hang on by any means necessary. Former interim WBO heavyweight champion Joe Joyce (16-2, 15 KOs) will go up against the tough veteran Derek Chisora (34-13, 23 KOs). This heavyweight bout will likely not reach the final bell, so what each fighter does early should determine the fight’s outcome.

Is Joe Joyce Going To Show Fight Fans Anything Different On Saturday Night?

As hard as Joyce hits and as big as he is, his personality is that of a stand-up individual. It’s likely why fans love to see him fight. He is slow and moves at a snail’s pace, but when he lands, it’s hard, and he can take a punch. Last year, though, was a bad one for Joyce as he suffered two brutal stoppages at the hands of Zhilei Zhang. The 38-year-old Joyce decided he wasn’t ready to hang up the gloves and wanted another run. That run began in March by knocking out Kash Ali, and now he would like to push Chisora off the cliff.

Joyce can win this fight easily if he can stick to throwing out his left jab and throwing combinations when it makes sense. He should also save some in the tank for the later rounds, as Chisora is known to get fatigued quickly. When the time is right late in the fight, Joyce should jump on Chisora and force a stoppage.

Derek Chisora’s Last Stand

Chisora has to have the dirty laundry on all of the UK promoters as he continues to get one opportunity after another, with some being world title fights. At 40, Chisora has finally reached the end of the road, or has he? He hasn’t fought in nearly a year and, on Saturday, will face a heavy-handed Joyce who can bang with the best of them. If, somehow, Chisora wins on Saturday, he will again be in line for a big fight. If he loses, then that should be it for him, and there is no shame in that. He’s made a good living for himself throughout his 17-year career.

How does he win? The only way Chisora can beat Joyce is to punch with him and hope he can land something big before getting hit himself. Joyce is slow, but Chisora could be slightly quicker with his punches, which would be his advantage in this fight. Will it be a hug fest? Absolutely, but if Chisora can somehow land four to five punches cleanly late in the fight, it could make for an interesting turnout.

JOE JOYCE VS DEREK CHISORA PREDICTION
