Scotland's Josh Taylor remained the undisputed light-welterweight champion of the world Saturday with a narrow and controversial split decision win over British boxer Jack Catterall (112-113, 114-111, 113-112).
Both were undefeated entering the bout with Taylor now holding a 19-0 record and retaining the WBA (Super), WBC, IBF, and WBO belts in the light-welterweight division. Catterall had a 26-0 record entering the title bout and suffered his first defeat Saturday.
Catterall, 28, recorded the only knockdown of the fight when he sat Taylor down in the eighth round. In addition to complaints about the scoring, the fight also came with a dose of controversy as the referee deducted a point from each fighter. The first was a penalty for Catterall for holding on to the neck of Taylor.

The second deduction was called against Taylor for a small punch to Catterall's midsection after the bell at the end of the 11th round.
Taylor, 31, had a lengthy amateur career with silver and gold medals at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games. He entered the fight Saturday as a massive favorite over Catterall.
