In an interview with ‘The Stomping Ground’ ahead of his July 19 rematch against Daniel Dubois, Usyk responded to questions about potential future opponents by expressing interest in a trilogy fight with either Tyson Fury or Anthony Joshua—assuming he secures victory at Wembley Stadium.
Fury, who suffered back-to-back defeats to Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) last year, announced his retirement from boxing in January, shortly after their second bout. However, Usyk remains skeptical that Fury has truly walked away from the sport.
The 36-year-old Fury saw Usyk’s interview and posted on Instagram, “Beat the f****r 2 times the world knows the truth. Any time, any place. Sucher (sic). UK next time 100k people.”
So, is a Fury comeback on the horizon—and if it is, is Usyk the opponent he’s targeting? Fury has claimed the world knows the truth, and on that front, he’s right: Usyk clearly beat him twice, nearly stopping him in the ninth round of their first encounter.
Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) has struggled to accept defeat with grace, something many fans had anticipated, while Usyk has remained dignified and respectful, consistently embodying what it means to be a true world heavyweight champion.
If a trilogy bout does happen, the question remains—can Fury finally solve the puzzle, or will Usyk make it a clean 3-0 sweep against a man who may well be his greatest foil?
On the other hand, Fury and Joshua have been frequently mentioned as potential opponents in an all-British showdown, though the matchup has yet to materialize. Despite that, a bout between the two still stands as arguably the most commercially attractive option for either heavyweight, especially with both fighters currently coming off defeats.
