Sebastian Fundora Vs. Tim Tszyu Preview
Andy Abeyta/The Desert Sun / USA TODAY NETWORK

The WBC Junior Middleweight Champion Sebastian Fundora rematches Tim Tszyu on July 19, as we preview this upcoming fight.

Fundora defeated Tszyu via a split decision in their first encounter. Tszyu suffered an accidental cut over his hairline in the second round, leading to constant bleeding that impaired his vision throughout much of the fight. Despite the cut, Tszyu continued to fight, but Fundora capitalized on the situation, out-jabbed Tszyu, and ultimately secured the victory.

Since their initial clash, both fighters have had varying results. Fundora successfully defended his WBC title against Chordale Booker, winning by TKO in the fourth round. Meanwhile, Tszyu suffered a TKO loss to Bakhram Murtazaliev for the IBF junior middleweight title but bounced back with a TKO win against Joseph Spencer in his last fight.

Pre-Fight

“I’m happy to fight Tszyu a second time. He’s a great fighter. I’m happy to share another 12 rounds with him. I think I beat him clearly the first time, and we have to do it again. It’s just the business of boxing. It didn’t bother me. I’ll fight Zayas. We’re going to have to fight eventually. I don’t get to pick my fights. That’s my promoter’s job.

“One day it’s this guy, the next day it’s someone else. I just train and fight whoever they put me in against … In my last fight you saw a lot more adjustments and cleaner boxing. We’re growing even more in this fight. He looked good against Spencer. He did his thing, did great. We’ve been training very hard. I expect a great fight. I don’t see this rematch going the distance,” Fundora said

“It’s definitely unfinished business. I could feel his shots, feel his distance and I was able to land shots. A bit more present this time. That’s my aim. It’s a story, something I can tell [about] being able to come back. Being able to deal with adversity is a big thing for me – to inspire the next generation, the youth. Just because there’s a setback doesn’t mean there’s not a place for a comeback – in anything you do in life, not just boxing,” Tszyu stated
