William Zepeda and Tevin Farmer made the lightweight limit for their clash this weekend.
Zepeda will hope to repeat the trick from their first fight, where he edged out a split decision. The win took his record to 32-0. However, he had to get off the canvas to secure the win. It was not his finest performance, but he knows a win takes him closer to fighting Shakur Stevenson, who is the WBC Lightweight Champion. Farmer will take great confidence from the last fight. If he can repeat the trick and stifle Zepeda’s offensive with more power punches, he could very well come out victorious. Zepeda weighed 134.2 pounds, while Farmer weighed 135 pounds. During the face-off, the duo shoved each other.
“This is very exciting for me. I’ve finally found somebody who will go toe to toe with me. I really had to look at chances and opportunities, and I’m now really excited to be able to show not only the same explosive ‘Camaron’ Zepeda, but someone that’s willing to work hard to take the win on March 29. I want to make sure I take the win that evening.
“It was a very tough test. It was 10 rounds of war, and I learned that I need to step up and it’s a lesson for me and a lesson for everybody that we’re not supposed to just let things go. I took that lesson, and I’m going to implement it on Saturday,” Zepeda
“Everyone forgets how I got my world title the first time. I went to the wolf’s den. I went to Australia and defeated Billy Dib to get my world title. I’m used to this. My whole career, I’ve been the underdog. I’ve never had a big promoter behind me so I had to get it the hard way and growing up in Philly is the wolf’s den itself and I was the wolf,” Farmer said
“It was a special night, because this fight stole the show. [And] it was a fight that was back and forth. It was a fight that was, going, teeter-totter. Evenly matched. The skill sets that every fighter showed was incredible. We had to do the rematch. There’s no way around it. If you want to be the best, you gotta fight the best, and I truly feel that the winner on Saturday night will move on to bigger and better things. The fact that Farmer put on a tremendous, tremendous show, and William puts on a tremendous show every single time, we just had to come back here to Cancun and make it happen once again,” Oscar De La Hoya stated
