Indiana Pushing for No. 3 PG in College Basketball Transfer Portal

It was a disappointing season for the Indiana Hoosiers. Led by first-year head coach Darian DeVries, the Hoosiers went just 18-14 overall and 9-11 in Big Ten games. It's their first losing record in conference matchups since 2021-22. This also marks the third year in a row that they failed to make an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

However, Indiana has hit the offseason running. The transfer portal officially opened on Tuesday and runs through April 21. The Hoosiers have already landed commitments from Darren Harris (Duke Blue Devils) and Jaeden Mustaf (Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets). The group ranks second in the Big Ten and fourth in the nation.

With two additions under their belt, the Hoosiers continue to search for more talent. On3's Joe Tipton reports that Indiana is a team to watch for former Notre Dame Fighting Irish point guard Markus Burton.

"Houston and Indiana have been the two schools tied to him," Tipton wrote. "The Cougars landed LSU transfer PG Dedan Thomas Jr. over the weekend, so I like the Hoosiers chances."

As a junior for the Fighting Irish, the guard was limited to just 10 games because of a season-ending ankle injury. During his time healthy, though, he averaged 18.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He also shot 48.9% from the field and 30.6% from beyond the three-point line.

Despite the shortened season, Burton is viewed as one of the top players available. On3 rankings place him as the No. 3 point guard and No. 17 player to hit the transfer portal so far this offseason.

While the Hoosiers have already brought in solid talent, they're looking to add more. Indiana has lost five players to the portal. Three of whom are guards, including Jason Drake, Jasai Miles and Aleksa Ristic. Landing Burton will continue to help replace those losses.
