Yesterday, Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson, a senior, changed his number from No. 14 to No. 1. As all Michigan fans know, the coveted No. 1 jersey number has been worn by a few Wolverine greats in the past, including Braylon Edwards and Anthony Carter.

The No. 1 Michigan football jersey number is one of the most coveted in program history, being donned by many program greats (especially at wide receiver over the years. According to the team’s roster page, the Wolverines have a new No. 1 on offense: senior standout wide receiver Roman Wilson.

Roman Wilson will suit up wearing No. 1 for 2023

This year, with Roman Wilson healthy for the first time since last season, he is anticipated to take on a much larger role, perhaps even becoming JJ McCarthy’s favorite target this fall.

“Who can be that go-to receiver? Who’s going to be dependable? I gotta be there and make plays when he wants me to,” Roman Wilson said during fall camp.

“If you’ve watched my game, if you put me in that category of ‘I’m a fast guy,’” Wilson added. “I’m not just a fast guy. I can help in the backfield, I can play wideout, I can play slot. I am fast, I can go up and get the ball, and I can run after catch. I’ve got great hands; that’s who I am.”

During the 2023 season, keep an eye on Michigan football wide receiver Roman Wilson, who is donning the coveted No. 1 throughout the upcoming season.
