Promising quick Shamarh Joseph, who came into the West Indies XI for Kemar Roach, struck twice in his third over during South Africa’s first innings of the second Test at Guyana. He first accounted for Aiden Markram, who shouldered arms to a ball outside off-stump that jagged back in considerably to have him bowled. Joseph followed it up with a similar delivery which kept low to captain Temba Bavuma, and trapped him in front.
Joseph picked up his third five-fer in Test match cricket castling Kyle Verreyenne, but with their team reeling at 97 for 9, Nandre Burger and Dane Piedt knocked the ball around and punished the loose deliveries in a fighting last wicket stand of 63 runs.
West Indies might have gone into the break as the happier side but South Africa were adamant to show their bowling prowess. The hosts were reduced to an abysmal 97/7 as 17 wickets fell on what was an eventful, fast-moving day of Test cricket.
Brief Scores: South Africa 160 (Dane Piedt 38*, David Bedingham 28; Shamar Joseph 5-33, Jayden Seales 3-45) lead West Indies 97/7 (Jason Holder 33*, Keacy Carty 26; Wiaan Mulder 4-18, Nandre Burger 2-32) by 63 runs
Elegant in his approach to the 2nd innings.
