Virat Kohli looks poised to set a historic record in IPL cricket. He is one boundary away from becoming the first ever player to cross the mark of 9000 runs in Indian Premier League. Royal Challengers Bengaluru batter already has 8908 runs and requires just 92 more to achieve this historic milestone.
The batter is expected to reach the milestone in his team's upcoming encounter against Gujarat Titans on April 24, and all eyes will be glued to him. Kohli is a part of the Bangalore franchise since its inception back in 2008 and has so far slammed 8 centuries and 65 half-centuries at an average of 39.76. He has scored runs at a strike rate of 133.43 so far and has hit 299 boundaries and 799 sixes.
He didn't have a brilliant start in the early part of his career but his run accumulation picked up since the year 2011 when he touched 500 run mark first, scoring 557 runs. He took over the full-time captaincy in 2013 which saw him scoring 634 runs in the season, and in 2016 season he scaled new heights by scoring a record 973 runs at an astonishing average of 81.08, including 4 centuries.
The 36-year-old's performance didn't fade away in the later stages of the league either as he recorded 639 runs in 2023, 741 runs in 2024 and 657 runs in 2025 edition. He continued to deliver despite announcing his retirement from T20I cricket in 2024 and has already scored 247 runs from his 9 outings this season.
The 36-year-old may also reach another incredible feat soon. He requires just 68 more runs against Delhi Capitals to become the first ever player to reach the 10000 run mark in T20 cricket in India. He may create an all-time record of the most runs in a particular country.
Virat Kohli could be the first to achieve 10000 T20 runs in India if he scores 68 against Delhi Capitals. Kohli already holds the record for the most T20 runs at a specific location and this will further strengthen his feat.
The next top run-scorers in IPL are Rohit Sharma who has accumulated 7183 runs from 271 matches and Shikhar Dhawan with 6769 runs from 265 matches. David Warner occupies the 4th position in the list, while Suresh Raina is at the 5th position with 5528 runs. Kohli has been an absolute machine and undoubtedly one of the legends of IPL cricket.
