Anybody remember how Netflix got its start?  It was in 1997 and Netflix had a mail service where subscribers could pick their movies online and get their selections sent to them via the mail. (Yep, snail mail.) It changed the whole landscape of movie rental subscription service. Then Netflix got “re-platformed” in 2007 so subscribers could essentially do the same thing by streaming them to their chosen device. Hence, streaming began – and everything was transformed forever.

10 Netflix Shows That Definitely Deserve Another Season

Here we are presenting a list of 10 Netflix shows that were groundbreaking in one way or another. Either through storytelling, original content, or a fantastic cast, these Netflix shows were canceled or remain in limbo. We sure wish they would bring them back for another season (or two!).

1. The OA

Brit Marling created and starred in The OA. It’s about a blind young woman who goes missing for seven years then returns home with her sight restored. What was the reason for the disappearance? Is she still the same person she was? This series skillfully blended the supernatural into its storytelling and was much loved by viewers. We think OA stands for Original Angel.

2. GLOW

GLOW stands for Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. The series ran for three seasons on Netflix then it looked like we were going to get a fourth, but thanks to COVID-19, production was stopped. GLOW follows a group of women wrestlers – both in their lives and in the ring. Alison Brie, Marc Maron, and Betty Gilpin do a fabulous job with an excellent supporting cast.

3. Santa Clarita Diet

Different from the “South Beach diet,” this show followed the happenings in Santa Clarita, California. Sheila and Joel Hammond are a married pair of real estate agents. But then Sheila dies – maybe or she doesn’t? Sheila is undead – so it’s a zany zombie show?! Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant are perfect in this. Full of dark humor, this was a crowd pleaser.

4. The Society

Another one bit by Covid, unfortunately The Society was canceled after its first season. It’s about a group of teens who are left to fend on their own after the residents of their Connecticut town all mysteriously vanish. In the same vein as Lord of the Flies and Under the Dome, this series had great performances, particularly by Kathryn Newton, and an interesting premise.

5. Sense8

Sense8 is a play on “sensate” – meaning what is perceived by the senses. This series brought together a group of eight strangers, all from diverse backgrounds and countries. They had experienced a tragedy and were brought in to be the subjects of an intense sci-fi experiment. Rounding out the cast is Naveen Andrews as Jonas and Daryl Hannah as Angelica. One of the 10 Netflix Shows that had another season in it.

6. Mindhunter

Two FBI agents, Holt and Tench, seek answers into the minds of serial killers. Played by Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany, the series was dark, dramatic, and deliciously suspenseful. The two stars, supported by Anna Torv (who plays the doctor) did their best to unravel the mysteries of a broken mind. This series is one of the 10 Netflix shows that definitely deserved another season.

7. Daybreak

So, what do you get when you mix Ferris Bueller‘s Day Off with Mad Max? Daybreak, of course! Set an a dystopian Glendale, California (yikes), central character teen Josh has to find his girlfriend. Engaging characters, with a somewhat interesting plot line (not the most original), this series definitely left us wanting more.

8. October Faction

Tamara Taylor and JC MacKenzie star as an adventurous monster hunting couple in this comedy/thriller. A great storyline, a talented cast with killer comedic timing, and extremely well done special effects made this a stand out Netflix series. Too bad it only got one season, as this likely would have been as popular as Supernatural or Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

9. V-Wars

Speaking of vampires, Ian Somerhalder just can’t get away from them! Ian portrays Dr. Luther Swann who is trying to get a grip on a deadly virus transmitted through melting ice from glaciers. The virus turns people into vampires – got it? Luther’s best friend Mike, now a bloodsucker, leads the vampiric revolution. This rates as one of the 10 Netflix shows that definitely deserved another run!

10. Jessica Jones

Krysten Ritter really hit it out of the park playing the titular character of this award-winning series. We saw Jessica Jones, a brooding, private detective with superhero abilities, fighting crime in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City. Rachael Taylor, Eka Darville, and David Tennant all round out this wonderful cast. This definitely is one of the 10 Netflix shows that certainly deserved another season!

A Few Final Thoughts

The 10 Netflix shows that definitely deserve another season listed here all have one thing in common: they leave the viewers wanting more. Whether it’s zombies, angels, vampires, viruses, or sardonic crime fighting detectives, we wish that each of these shows would’ve had another season.
