Adam Brody doesn't think a reboot of 'The O.C.' is possible 'in a post-Donald Trump America'

The mini reunion between Rachel Bilson, Adam Brody and Melinda Clarke on this week's episode of Welcome to the OC, Bitches! is more than likely the closest we will ever get to a reboot of The O.C.

The rewatch podcast is co-hosted by Bilson and Clarke, and Brody was their guest—after a bribe from Bilson—to review "The Strip," the penultimate episode of the teen soap's first season. The conversation touched on several other topics, including whether a reboot could happen.

Here's what Brody had to say:

"I kinda don't think it can be done because I feel like socially, I think we're in a different place. And I think we're in a more conscious place. I feel like The O.C., while it claims to be—in a similar sense of Gossip Girl—a critique, it's not. It's a celebration. It's a celebration of affluence, in my opinion. And obviously in the heart of it, there's people who are lovely. It's a family at the heart of it, too. There's people who love each other and care for each other and sacrifice for each other. So, it's not a pure celebration of money. It's a celebration of love and romance and being in high school. It's not just that.

"I guess my point is, like, for me, in a post-Donald Trump America, to go, 'Let's go back to Orange County,' I feel like you have to have a real reckoning politically and socially. And is that what people want to see with this show? I don't know. And is there a way to do both? I mean, there is, I suppose. But in my eyes, I'd probably want to torch it more than the fans would want. And so, I don't know who would be happy."

Brody, 41, added that almost every reboot he's seen recently "sucks."

"If you, in particular, and [showrunner Josh] Schwartz and [Stephanie] Savage, even Ben [McKenzie], I feel like you guys—your brains together could come up with something really smart," Bilson chimed in. "It's a tough thing, right? Because you don't want to touch this thing that had such an influence and has such a fan base and whatever, but there are ways to go."

"I think with the smarts you all have and the talent, with the cast and everything else, I think there's a world where it could exist and be done well if everyone wanted it and cared enough about it," she continued.

The original O.C. aired from 2003-07. Bilson and Brody played fan-favorite teen love interests Summer Roberts and Seth Cohen, respectively, who eventually got married. Clarke played Julie Cooper.
