"Ted Lasso" was the first Apple TV+ original to become a zeitgeist-capturing phenomenon, but "Severance" certainly rose to that level during the run of its second season. The show seems to drive a level of social media engagement usually only seen in hit HBO shows. "Severance" just dropped its season two finale and, within hours, Apple had announced a third season.
The dystopian workplace satire starring Adam Scott has emerged as the most-watched drama in Apple TV+'s history. Upon the announcement of the third season, which to be fair was the least-surprising news we've heard all week, show creator Dan Erickson said, "I can’t wait to continue spreading woe, frolic, dread and malice with these truly incredible people."
Ben Stiller, an executive producer and director on the show that has emerged as something of the face of it, quipped in a statement:
Making "Severance" has been one of the most creatively exciting experiences I’ve ever been a part of. While I have no memory of this, I’m told making season three will be equally enjoyable, though any recollection of these future events will be forever and irrevocably wiped from my memory as well.
That is, of course, in reference to the central conceit of the show wherein people's work life and home life are, shall we say, intensely and intentionally bifurcated. Through two seasons, "Severance" has been able to built a large and passionate audience. So, you know, no pressure for season three, guys.
