'Grey's' star Caterina Scorsone on fans reactions to Amelia & Kai's kiss: 'The most exciting thing that's ever happened in my life'

Kaimelia shippers were rewarded in the Grey's Anatomy winter finale last Thursday (Dec. 16), when Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Dr. Kai Bartley (E.R. Fightmaster) finally kissed.

And they have showered Scorsone with gratitude.

"The reaction was the most exciting thing that's ever happened in my life," Scorsone said on E! News' Daily Pop. "What has happened is there are, like, millions of fan videos of young people watching the kiss finally happen after this whole season of buildup, and they have the camera on their faces as they watch it, and they just lose their minds."

"It is so heartwarming," the 40-year-old actress continued. "It's so sweet, and I watch all the videos."

One person who did not think the kiss was heartwarming was Link (Chris Carmack), who had planned to profess his love for Amelia (yet again) despite her unwillingness to marry him because he wanted to spend Christmas together as a family with her and their son, Scout. Instead, he saw Amelia kissing Kai.

"On Grey's Anatomy, no one is ever done for good," Scorsone added, speaking on what this all means for Amelia and Link. "That's not a thing on Grey's Anatomy. So, we'll see. There's story for 18 seasons, so we'll see what happens."

Scorsone first appeared on the longest-running primetime medical drama in 2010, although she wasn't promoted to series regular until 2014.

Fightmaster made history earlier this year when they were added as a recurring character and became the show's first-ever non-binary doctor.

"It's an awesome honor, and it is so in keeping with what we do on Grey's Anatomy, which is bringing visibility and representation to everybody," Scorsone said of working with Fightmaster and Amelia being such a big part of Kai's storyline. "E.R. is incredible and just a total package—actor, musician, fantastic person."

Grey's will resume its 18th season Feb. 24, 2022. Watch the teaser below.
