Hoda Kotb on adopting her daughters: 'Sandra Bullock was really helping with some guidance'

Hoda Kotb couldn't contain her tears when she revealed on Today that she had adopted her then-infant daughter, Haley Joy, in February 2017.

The bestselling author and NBC mainstay was the first-ever guest of People's brand new "Me Becoming Mom" podcast and discussed how an unlikely source helped get her to that point of euphoria.

"On the way there, this sounds so weird, but Sandra Bullock was really helping with some guidance about like, 'Don't be scared,'" the 57-year-old said, describing when she flew to officially meet Haley and bring her home. "She was one of the people who I looked to, to realize that someone like me of the same age could do these things. She described the most beautiful part of her life began when her kids entered it. She sent me some texts and I was reading them, and I was playing music by Ingrid Michaelson."

Bullock, also 57, first adopted a baby boy named Louis in 2010 before adopting her then-three-year-old daughter named Laila out of Louisiana foster care in 2015.

Kotb added Hope Catherine, 2, through adoption in April 2019:

And she updated where she stands in adopting a third child on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in July:

Kotb has adopted her daughters with her fiancé, Joel Schiffman. The couple became engaged in November 2019 after dating for six years.
