Jared Leto transforms into frightening vampire in 'Morbius' trailer

Dr. Michael Morbius just wanted to cure the rare blood disease that should have killed him.

Instead, he "inadvertently infects himself with a form of vampirism" (h/t IMDb).

The frightening transformation is captured in Sony Pictures' official trailer for Morbius , where Jared Leto plays the titular character:

The three-minute video arrived Tuesday, nearly two years after the teaser trailer dropped in January 2020.

The end of the trailer playfully nods toward Sony Pictures' blockbuster franchise Venom, starring Tom Hardy, with Morbius telling a terrified human who asks who he is, "I ... am ... Venom! I'm just kidding. It's Dr. Michael Morbius, at your service."

Directed by Daniel Espinosa, the film's official description is listed as follows: "One of Marvel’s most compelling and conflicted characters comes to the big screen as Oscar® winner Jared Leto transforms into the enigmatic antihero Michael Morbius. Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr. Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. While at first it seems to be a radical success, a darkness inside him is unleashed. Will good override evil—or will Morbius succumb to his mysterious new urges?"

Morbius also stars Adria Arjona, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal and Matt Smith.

Before Morbius hits theaters in January 2022, fans can see Leto in Ridley Scott's star-studded House of Gucci this Thanksgiving.
