Kevin Feige of Marvel Studios met with journalists and revealed the plans for the future of the MCU! With big releases like “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” and long-awaited projects like “Blade,” a lot of questions were asked and answered.
Though Kevin Feige’s contract with Marvel Studios is for two more years, they have a seven-year plan. That would seem to indicate that they may already be in negotiations to extend his contract. He acknowledged the issue after “Avengers: Endgame” was that the studio was pursuing quantity over quality. They’re fixing that by reducing the number of television productions. The current plan is for one show each year.
“Avengers: Secret Wars” is the “reset” and new beginning for the MCU, where “Endgame” was about endings. We also have learned that shifting away from Kang the Conqueror in favor of Dr. Doom (as well as casting Robert Downey Jr.) was already being discussed before “Quantumania.”
In Spider-Man news, we now know that The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) will be in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” alongside Spidey. And, even better news, is that Spider-Man is returning to his roots and will be fighting “street-level crime, as opposed to world-ending events.” Hooray for that! He even has a vision for a Fantastic Four/Spider-Man team-up since the Human Torch is friends with Spider-Man in the comics. But Miles Morales won’t be showing up in a live-action Spider-Man film anytime soon.
If you’re wondering what to watch before you go to see Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” the answer is nothing! The film was made to stand on its own, so you don’t have to set aside time to watch a bunch of shows and movies to catch up on the story. For this one, we can go to the movie, sit back, and enjoy! And, if you’re worried about a cloud-shaped villain, have no fear. Galactus will appear in his comic-accurate glory.
There still isn’t a release date for Blade. But we have a few details. Though they considered a period piece, the film will take place in the modern era. Mahershala Ali is still the actor who has been cast in the title role. And, the script is being written by Eric Pearson, who also has worked on the scripts for “First Steps,” “Thunderbolts,” and “Ragnarok.”
He didn’t share it, but Feige did say there’s a more definite timeline for Black Panther 3. And, there could be more R-rated content from Marvel Studios with Feige admitting he has talked with Ryan Reynolds about the future of Deadpool. Could Wolverine return too? Maybe. He isn’t saying no.
The new Marvel Studios X-Men will be “a very youth-oriented, focused, and cast movie” and more like the comics than the Fox version was. Jake Scherer, director of “Thunderbolts,” has been confirmed as the director.
There’s nothing specific, but Feige mentioned he’d be excited to see Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) return to the MCU, and they are possibly working on a Young Avengers project. And when asked about characters like Moon Night, Shang-Chi, and the Eternals, he would only say that they will “pop up again in some of the upcoming movies and beyond.” When asked about Mephisto, who appeared in “Ironheart,” he said he is likely to make another appearance. And finally, even Tony Stark and Steve Rogers will need to be recast one day. When? Who can say?
Yeah, we know that was a lot to take in. But with so much information shared, you wouldn’t want to miss out on news about your favorite character! A lot of the projects have indefinite dates or details. But we’ll keep you informed. Check back for new updates and more information on all of the Marvel Studios projects coming in the future.
