Just last year, Larry David ended the acclaimed run of "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on HBO and in the process readjudicated the series finale of "Seinfeld." Also, he co-created "Seinfeld" and therefore literally could never work another day as long as he lived and be incredibly rich. And yet, the comedy legend just won't stop. He's returning to HBO, and he's doing it with the Obamas.
Barack and Michelle are serving as executive producers on this sketch comedy show with a historical element to it. The logline provided is as follows:
President and Mrs. Obama wanted to honor America’s 250th anniversary and celebrate the unique history of our nation on this special occasion. … But then Larry David called.
Given the "250th anniversary" thing, one assumes the show is going to hit HBO in 2026. David will star in the historically-tinted sketch show while also co-writing the show with Jeff Shaffer, a "Curb" album who will direct. The show doesn't have a title yet, but it has a six-episode order. Naturally, there will be guest stars. The question becomes: Will that include the Obamas?
Will this show be any good? Honestly, it'll probably be fine. We'll probably get a few great sketches, a few good ones, a handful that are bad, and then a bunch that are passable. Will a sketch show from Larry David and the Obamas be noteworthy when it hits HBO in 2026? Yeah, that we feel pretty confident about.
