Whispers once spread throughout the galaxy far, far away about the Emperor’s secret project. Recently rumors have swirled in our own galaxy that LEGO was also building something big. Really big. Now the iconic toy company has confirmed it’s true. “All of it.” Today, LEGO has announced that Star Wars’ Death Star is getting its own massive set. And this LEGO Death Star is coming with a massive, record-setting price tag of $1,000.
The LEGO Star War Death Star – Ultimate Collector Series will let you bring the Empire’s fully armed and operational battle station home. The gigantic set measures 20.6-inches high, 18.9-inches wide, and 15.1-inches deep and comes in at a whopping 9,023 pieces. That makes it LEGO’s largest Star Wars set ever and more than double the size of the old retired LEGO Death Star. This new version also features what the company calls a “compact foundation and layered vertical structure” that “delivers depth and complexity while remaining impressively displayable.”
The Star Wars LEGO Death Star also celebrates both the first and second versions of Palpatine’s ultimate weapon, with recreated scenes and details taken from both A New Hope and Return of the Jedi. There are also nods to Rogue One. LEGO’s new Death Star includes the trash compactor room, the Emperor’s throne room, Princess Leia’s cell, the tractor beam control unit, the Imperial shuttle hangar, and more. You’ll finally be able to pretend you’re a smug Imperial officer mocking Darth Vader for his religion via little plastic bricks.
A big set also requires a lot of people to fill it, and this one arrives with exactly that. This LEGO Star Wars Death Star comes with 38 mini-figs. Notable characters include two versions of Luke Skywalker (both Jedi and stormtrooper variants), Han Solo, Princess Leia, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Orson Krennic, and more. And yes, that stormtrooper in the hot tub is an Easter egg from the LEGO Star Wars video games.
The LEGO Star War Death Star set will go on sale for LEGO Insiders online and in stores starting October 1. Everyone else can grab theirs on October 4. For $999.99, the most expensive LEGO set ever. But those who purchase theirs between the 1st and 7th of October will get a bonus. “While supplies last,” they’ll also get a free LEGO Star Wars TIE Fighter with Imperial Hangar Rack.
That means this set will set two records. It will come with the highest LEGO price tag ever, yes. But it will also mark the first time the Death Star sent out TIE fighters in a timely fashion. That might be even more impressive than this collection’s price tag.
In case you missed it above, we’re giving you the TL;DR download on the LEGO Star Wars Death Star, LEGO’s first $1,000 set, in handy bullet point form.
The LEGO Star Wars Death Star technically comes in at just shy of $1,000. It actually costs $999.99. But that’s really close enough for horseshoes and hand grenades… and Imperial death beams. So we’re calling the LEGO Death Star LEGO’s first $1,000 set.
No! This (one dollar shy of the mark) Star Wars LEGO set is LEGO’s first $999.99 /$1,000 set ever. Long live the Death Star.
The LEGO Star Wars Death Star set contains 9,023 piece. PHEW!
The LEGO Death Star is over 20.6 in. (52.3 cm) high, 18.9 in. (48.0 cm) wide, and 15.1 in. (38.3 cm) deep. So get ready to rearrange the rocket ship for this Star Wars LEGO set is basically what we’re saying.
