Margot Robbie may star in remake of cult classic from Tim Burton

It only took one success for Tim Burton for him to get the chance to direct something weird and esoteric again. "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" was a hit and Burton has used it as a springboard to doing something that feels old-school Burton. The director is working on a remake of "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman," and apparently Margot Robbie is in talks to star.

If you aren't familiar with the film in question...

"Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" is a cult classic from the world of 1950s science-fiction. It's not "good," in the traditional sense. Also, it's a "movie" that is all of 66 minutes long. However, it's a sci-fi story about a woman who grows giant and beefs with her philanderer of a husband. It's exactly the kind of movie that is reasonable to remake, what with it not being unimpeachable by any means. On top of that, it's exactly the kind of movie you can imagine Tim Burton having an affinity for.

With all due respect to Allison Hayes, who acted in many a cheapie B-movie, having Robbie for the lead role in "Attack of the 50 Foot Woman" would be a very different circumstance. Nothing is etched in stone yet, though. Gillian Flynn, of "Gone Girl" fame, wrote a first draft of the screenplay, but she's had to bow out due to other commitments. Reportedly, Robbie's involvement depends on how the screenplay shakes out. That's fair. She's successful enough to do what she feels like professionally. Not just as an actor. Robbie is a very successful producer as well.

All that said, the idea of Robbie starring in a Burton remake of a goofy cult sci-fi film about a gigantic woman seems like a lot of fun. Fingers crossed it happens.
