Meryl Streep taught Amy Adams this crafty skill while filming 'Doubt' together

Amy Adams' new Netflix film The Woman in the Window isn't doing very well, to put it gently, but the actress had the opportunity to reminisce on happier times on The Kelly Clarkson Show this afternoon (May 14).

Clarkson first admitted to Adams that she is "a hit in my household" because of her "kids are obsessed" with Enchanted (2007), which Adams led as Princess Giselle. That (somehow?) led into what Adams learned from Meryl Streep while filming Doubt (2008).

"I learned how to knit," the six-time Oscar nominee said. "Meryl Streep taught me, and I understand you love Meryl Streep."

Clarkson jokingly pretended to walk off the stage after this revelation: "Did you just say Meryl Streep taught you how to knit? I learned how to quilt on YouTube, Amy!"

Adams continued:

"I've worked with her, and I'm still completely enamored by her. I say I carry around a little Meryl in my heart. Whenever I'm stuck with a tough decision, I'm like, 'What would Meryl do in this situation?' Big knitter. She's crafty. She's a really good knitter. ... We were on the set of Doubt. She did it in two parts: to sort of create a bonding experience between our characters but also probably she felt sorry for me because I tend to be a bit energetic, and so, I'm sure she thought that was a great way to direct my energy."

Doubt, directed and written by John Patrick Shanley, earned Adams and Streep Oscar nominations. The mysterious drama got five Oscar nods overall.

As for Enchanted, Adams is finally set to reprise her role for the long-awaited and long-delayed Disenchanted. The sequel will be directed by Adam Shankman and also return Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Idina Menzel. Maya Rudolph, Jayma Mays and Yvette Nicole Brown have been added as new faces in the story's continuation.
