Recently, the news broke that Taylor Russell , who was to star opposite Michael B. Jordan in the third iteration of "The Thomas Crown Affair," had left the project due to "creative differences." Jordan is also the director, so one must think the creative differences were with him. However, Jordan and company not only swiftly filled the role, but frankly got a likely upgrade in casting. Adria Arjona will now co-star in "The Thomas Crown Affair."
The role in question was famously played by Faye Dunaway in the original and Rene Russo in the superior 2nd version, the one with Pierce Brosnan in the role of Thomas Crown, art thief extraordinaire. The female lead is charged with catching Crown, but of course also falls into a torrid romance with him. Part of what people enjoyed about the Brosnan/Russo film, which is kinetic where the original is languid, is how sexy it is.
That is why Arjona's casting is so astute. While she is best known for "Andor," Arjona also starred opposite Glen Powell in Richard Linklater's rom-com "Hitman." That movie got a lot of positive buzz, and a lot of, "They don't make movies like this for adults anymore!" Part of that was how sexy the movie was, and in particular the compelling chemistry between Powell and Arjona.
Arjona will have no problem stepping into this role in "The Thomas Crown Affair" and handling the steaminess and chemistry generation with Jordan. At least, if Jordan proves capable of directing such a film. We'll find out when the movie is released March 5, 2027.
