‘Only Murders in the Building’ is nominated for outstanding comedy series at the upcoming Emmys, with Martin Short also up for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series. Those are the show’s only two major nominations out of seven total, which may not bode well for its chances — though Short is beloved, so you never know. The Emmys take place Sept. 14.
Before that, season five of ‘Only Murders in the Building’ debuts Sept. 9 on Hulu, and there’s now a trailer. Season four was fun but overstuffed, with too many celebrities, too many guest stars and too much time away from the building, including a detour to Los Angeles for a movie about the characters themselves. We hoped season five would pare things back, and … well, sort of.
It’s less outlandish than season four’s Zach Galifianakis-playing-himself storyline, but clearly, every season is going to be packed with guest stars. This year’s roster includes returning cast member Meryl Streep, along with Christoph Waltz, Renee Zellweger and Dianne Wiest — an Oscars-heavy lineup. Tea Leoni also joins the mix.
Based on the trailer, season five should deliver another fun run. Watch the premiere Sept. 9, then tune in to the Emmys on Sept. 14 to see if Short takes home the award.
