Sylvester Stallone is currently developing a Rocky prequel.
The new movie takes place years before the first Rocky film and follows the early life of aspiring boxer Rocky Balboa as he navigates his teenage years.
“The Rocky prequel is very near and dear to my heart,” Stallone tells Inspire Me UK in a video interview posted on Facebook. I wrote a few pages of it and it just seemed to write itself.”
According to Stallone, we’ll see Rocky at 17, his future wife Adrien at 15, and her older brother Paulie. Plot details are mostly under wraps, but it sees Rocky moving to a new neighbourhood and acting as a typical “bad boy.”
Stallone compares the story to a classic Disney animation. “It’s almost like Lady and the Tramp,” he says, “but with real people. It’s going to be wonderful.”
There have been six Rocky films in total, starting with 1976’s iconic boxing underdog story, Rocky. As well as writing and starring in these, Stallone also co-wrote and acted in the off-shoot Creed trilogy. The Rocky prequel takes the total number of films in the Rocky universe to ten.
That’s not all. A new Creed movie is also coming, with the Creed 4 director revealed in a surprising admission.
