Sebastian Stan had some things to say to the Marvel haters in his new cover story in Variety, where he spoke about his upcoming film The Apprentice but also about reprising his role as Bucky Barnes in Thunderbolts*, which is set to release on reflecting on May 2, 2025.

Stan told Variety that "It's become really convenient to pick on" the movies from Marvel, but he feels "they're a big part of what contributes to this business and allows us to have smaller movies as well."

He also said "Sometimes I get protective of it because the intention is really f*****g good. It's just f*****g hard to make a good movie over and over again."

Marvel's latest blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine, made $1.3 billion at the box office this summer, but there's been a growing trend of fans feeling fatigued by the sheer volume of stories flooding out of Marvel.

Most recently, critics were divided in early opinions of new Marvel series Agatha All Along, which feels like a reflection of how most Marvel releases have been received in recent years.

Stan also took the opportunity to defend the President of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, calling him "the most selfless man on this planet" and said, "despite the enormous success [Feige's] had, [Feige] has never changed or wavered."

"They legitimately spend so much time thinking, how could we surprise people and give people something different? His big motto is 'The best idea wins'," continued Stan. "It just comes from a good place — and that's the only reason why sometimes I get protective of it. Because the intention is really good."
