With season 2 of Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne's Platonic fast approaching, they're ready to expand the Neighbors reunion in a potential third season.
"I don’t understand why that hasn’t come to fruition yet. Now I have it in my head that’s what we need to do," Byrne expressed to The Hollywood Reporter, only for Rogen to add, "We need to get Ike [Barinholtz] and Zac [Efron] in Platonic. That’d be great."
All four actors starred in the 2014 film and 2016 sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, both directed by Platonic co-creator, director, and co-writer Nick Stoller.
As for Rogen and Byrne reuniting, the actor explained, "In film chemistry is a mysterious thing; you never know who you’re going to have good chemistry with. There’s people who are great friends in real life that have terrible chemistry on screen. I’ve had great chemistry with people I don’t particularly like that much, and so I’m very lucky in this situation where I have chemistry with someone who I actually like. So I think that’s why we keep working together over and over again."
The cast of the Apple TV+ series also includes Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, with Aidy Bryant, Kyle Mooney, and Beck Bennett guest-starring.
Platonic season two picks up with everyone’s favorite pair of best friends (Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) as they contend with new midlife hurdles, including work, weddings and partners in crises. The duo tries their best to be each other’s rock — but sometimes rocks break things.
The comedy returns on August 6 with the first two episodes. After that, a new episode will drop weekly until the October 1 season finale.
