DC Studios' first film, Superman: Legacy, has begun filming and fans are waiting patiently for a proper suit reveal. While we got an early tease of the new crest from the film's table read, director James Gunn has now released the first photo of the suit, revealing the classic 'S'. Alongside the photo, the film also has a new name - 'SUPERMAN'.

Superman started filming on February 29, which coincidentally marks the last son of Krypton's birthday. Filming is currently taking place in Atlanta, Georgia. Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in the film, also posted a video on TikTok confirming the presence of Corenswet's Clark Kent and Nicholas Hoult's Lex Luthor.

Gunn shared the following statement regarding the film:

"Overjoyed to be announcing the start of principal photography on SUPERMAN today, February 29, which just so happens to be – coincidentally and unplanned – Superman’s birthday. When I finished the first draft of the script, I called the film Superman: Legacy. By the time I locked the final draft, it was clear the title was SUPERMAN. Making our way to you July 2025."

The new logo is an amalgamation of many different suits from the hero's comic book legacy, though the biggest influence is front and center - Kingdom Come. The addition of the yellow borders harkens back to the 1940s animated series by Fleischer Studios.

The reference to Kindom Come, a monumental Elseworlds storyline from Mark Waid, isn't surprising. Ever since Gunn was announced as the head of DC Studios, he has been posting cryptic teases using Alex Ross' art. It's not the first time that we'll see a Kingdom Come-inspired suit in live-action as Brandon Routh wore the classic suit, complete with the red-and-blue color scheme, in the CW's Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover. With the film now in production, we expect the first proper look at Corenswet in the suit to be released sooner rather than later, unless Warner Bros. is fine with blurry set photos ruining the surprise.

Superman flies to theaters on July 11, 2025.
