The new Man of Steel might be the face of the burgeoning DCU, but David Corenswet’s pop culture bonafides go way beyond Metropolis. The Superman star is also a big geek about the galaxy far, far away. He’s never been shy about sharing his love for all things Star Wars, including during his promotion for his blockbuster superhero film. When Vanity Fair hooked him up to a lie detector he even admitted to co-star Nicholas Hoult he’d rather play a Jedi Knight than return for a Superman sequel. So it should come as no surprise that Corenswet also has some very specific thoughts on the best viewing order of the Skywalker Saga.
Corenswet appeared on Brittany Broski’s Royal Court for a very fun conversation that included some good Star Wars talk. It started with the new Clark Kent pointing out why it’s absurd to say Anakin did nothing wrong. He then went full nerd by articulating exactly how Qui-Gon’s death changed the outlook of the Chosen One’s entire life.
While almost everyone would agree with his breakdown of Anakin’s masters, there’s definitely room for discussion about his viewing order. David Corenswet’s Star Wars hot take is that when you introduce a newcomer to the franchise you should screen the movies in a highly specific way. He says to watch them 4-5-1-2-3-6. The idea is that you maintain the big reveal about Vader being Luke’s dad. Then the prequels serve as a kind of flashback after that moment, which is then resolved in a movie David Corenswet needs to put a whole lot more respect on.
Yes, I am one of those “Return of the Jedi is the best Star Wars movie” people.
I am also a release order Star Wars fan. I think everyone should go 4-5-6/1-2-3/special editions 4-5-6/7-8-amnesia. But I have to say, Corenswet’s viewing order is intriguing. This is an idea that can only come from someone who spends way too much time thinking about the Force. This has real logic behind it.
Of course it does. The guy might be Superman, but Star Wars is his own personal kryptonite.
