‘The Office’ Spinoff (Finally) Has a Release Date

The Paper, the long-awaited spinoff of The Office, has finally set a release date.

More than 12 years after NBC’s The Office aired its final episode, viewers are invited to go back into the office of an old-school newspaper trying to thrive in the digital world with The Paper.

On Thursday, Peacock announced that The Paper—co-created by Greg Daniels, who first brought Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s original BBC series to life on American soil, and Michael Koman, who co-created Nathan for You with Nathan Fielder—will make its Peacock premiere on Thursday, September 4.

The series will kick off in grand fashion with a whopping four episodes dropping at once. From there, each Thursday will bring two new episodes of the hotly anticipated mockumentary-style comedy until the final episodes arrive on Thursday, September 25.

As far as what it’s about, the official summary reads as follows: “The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch in the Emmy Award-winning series The Office find a new subject when they discover a historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it.”

Though the focus will shift away from Dunder Mifflin, a.k.a. The People Person’s Paper Company, we already know that there will be at least one familiar face in the mix: Oscar Nuñez, who played Scranton accountant Oscar Martinez in the original NBC series will reprise his role in The Paper.

Otherwise, the faces will be mostly new ones—but certainly familiar: Harry Potter star Domhnall Gleeson leads the cast alongside The White Lotus season 2 breakout star Sabrina Impacciatore, and Emmy-winning comedian Alex Edelman. Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Ramona Young, and Tim Key also star in the ensemble comedy.
