Kathryn Bigelow is making her directing return in a big way. The Oscar-winning director has not released a film since 2017’s 'Detroit,' which struggled both commercially and critically. Her next project, 'A House of Dynamite,' has been shrouded in mystery, but the first teaser has now arrived and it delivers just enough to spark intrigue.
The teaser shows how to generate buzz with style, and without giving much away. There’s no dialogue, and the first credited actor, Idris Elba, is nowhere to be seen. Instead, the clip offers a glimpse of the tone and intensity of Kathryn Bigelow’s new film without revealing the plot. What’s clear is that it’s a political, military thriller with a heavy dose of tension.
A logline provides more clarity: When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.
That premise suggests the film could either lean into crowd-pleasing thrills or aim for awards prestige. Bigelow has done both in her career, from the Oscar-winning 'The Hurt Locker' to the cult-favorite action spectacle 'Point Break.'
'A House of Dynamite' will get a limited theatrical run beginning Oct. 10 before arriving on Netflix on Oct. 24.
