Willem Dafoe’s portrayal of the Green Goblin has cemented him as one of the greatest comic book movie villains of all time. From his unforgettable debut in 2002’s ‘Spider-Man’ to his return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’, his portrayal of the character has made him a fan favorite.
The actor has brought a unique blend of menace and tragic complexity to Norman Osborn. Now, if the latest rumors are to be believed, the legendary actor might not be done just yet.
According to Insider MyTimeToShineH, Willem Dafoe is reportedly in talks to reprise his role as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin in a future MCU project. Could this mean an appearance in ‘Spider-Man 4’, or is Marvel Studios planning something even bigger for the character?
Dafoe’s Green Goblin met his comic-accurate end in ‘Spider-Man’ when he was impaled by his own glider. However, that didn’t stop him from returning in ‘Spider-Man 2’ and ‘Spider-Man 3’ as a hallucination tormenting his son, Harry Osborn. Recently, after two decades, Marvel pulled off the impossible by bringing him back in ‘No Way Home’.
This time, the multiverse twist allowed him to step into the modern MCU, as a variant of his character. Additionally, the way the film ended left room for interpretation. After the Spider-Men helped cure him, Norman was sent back to his reality, seemingly free of the Goblin’s influence. But what happens next?
Unsurprisingly, due to the character’s ambiguous ending in ‘No Way Home,’ fans have been speculating on how Willem Dafoe could return. ‘Spider-Man 4 ‘, which is expected to bring Tom Holland’s Peter Parker back into action, would be a natural fit.
However, Marvel Studios is also building toward massive multiverse events with ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’. So, there’s a chance Dafoe’s return could be part of a larger storyline. Moreover, when Dafoe was asked about reprising his role once again his response only added to the speculation.
“We’ll see. We’ll see. I could come back,” he said cheekily. “Listen, Tom was great to work with, and the whole series of Spider-Man films that I did were great fun. Great fun.” Clearly, Dafoe isn’t shutting the door on Norman Osborn. So, fans of the actor can expect to see him taking on the role in the future.
