Two more "Spaceballs" stars have been confirmed for the sequel

Yesterday, there was a brief bit of news about 98-year-old comedy legend Mel Brooks reprising the role of Yogurt in the upcoming "Spaceballs" sequel. At the time, little else was known about the project, so we expressed some enthusiasm for Brooks, made a couple "The Search for More Money" jokes, and that was that. Well, since that piece of news, we've found out more about "Spaceballs 2," including one remarkable, exciting bit of casting.

Nonagenarian or not, Brooks was front-and-center for the announcement about the sequel to his "Star Wars" spoof from 1987. Well, Brooks and an amusingly-lengthy parody of the "Star Wars" opening crawl pointing out a litany of franchises that have churned out movies and TV shows since the first "Spaceballs." It was a fun announcement video, but there was also the intriguing news not included in said video.

According to Deadline's sources, both Bill Pullman and Rick Moranis will be returning to reprise their roles as Lone Starr and Dark Helmet. Now, Pullman returning for the sequel is cool, but not remarkable. Moranis, though, would be a huge bit of casting. After the tragic death of his wife from cancer in 1991, Moranis slowly eased into retirement to focus on being a father. In the new millennium, his film roles have only been voice work, and he hasn't even done that since 2006's "Brother Bear 2." Playing Dark Helmet would be Moranis' first live-action film work since 1997.

Additionally, both Keke Palmer and Bill's son Lewis are expected to be in the movie, and both would be fine additions. We were already intrigued by the film, but if Moranis is indeed returning, "Spaceballs 2" becomes a must-see. Of course, we also still stand by our point in the piece about Brooks as Yogurt that hopefully they get his scenes shot soon, what with him turning 99 in a couple weeks.
