Lewis Hamilton suffered from a nightmare of a weekend at the Dutch GP. The Briton was unable to fare well in Zandvoort after starting the race from P7 as he ultimately suffered from a DNF. Hamilton couldn’t control his car coming out of Turn 3 and spun out, ending his session early. As such, the 40-year-old opened up on his mental health following the mediocre outing at the Dutch GP.

Lewis Hamilton was looking positive heading into the Dutch GP weekend despite qualifying in the P7 position. Hamilton was confident in his abilities and could’ve achieved a decent finish if it weren’t for his crash and DNF from the race. The 40-year-old was left devastated after the crash as he did not comment much on the matter. However, the seven-time champion has now insisted that he’s alright.

Speaking on the disappointing circumstances at the Dutch GP, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that he was super sad for the team. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc was also involved in an incident with Kimi Antonelli as he too suffered from a DNF. Hamilton insisted that he was fine mentally and had some positive feelings despite the circumstances.

Further, Lewis Hamilton pointed out that he was making progress over the weekend after returning from the emotional summer break. Hamilton noted that over his long career in Formula 1, he could count such incidents on his fingers, as he hasn’t committed such errors often. The 40-year-old asserted that going out of the weekend with zero points felt bad to him, as the weekend was rather solid for Ferrari and they made good progress.

I’m sad for the team, I wanted to get those points for the team. Mentally I’m fine, I’ve had some positive feelings. I felt like I was making progress. I’ve been running for so long that I could count incidents like this on the fingers of my hand, but other than that it was a really solid weekend and we made a lot of progress both in the overall approach and in everything else. So going out empty-handed hurts.

Lewis Hamilton gives confused verdict on Dutch GP crash

Lewis Hamilton is seemingly making many more mistakes this season than he has in the past. Hamilton has already reached a breaking point and called himself useless following such circumstances. However, the seven-time champion insisted that he was dumbfounded over his incident at the Dutch GP and really had no idea behind the crash.

Hamilton noted that he did not expect to lose control of his car and ultimately crash into the barriers. The Briton reflected that everything had happened so quickly, as it was unusual for him to make such mistakes. The seven-time champion emphasized that he had never had an oversteer around Turn 3, as he did not understand why it even happened in the first place.

I really didn’t expect it. It happened suddenly, it was so unusual… I’ve never had an oversteer at that point so I don’t really understand what happened.

Ferrari’s pace wasn’t anything to boast about either as they suffered from a double DNF and walked out of the race weekend with zero points. There are just nine races left in the 2025 season and Maranello is leading the runner-up spot to Mercedes by just 12 points. As such, the Italian constructor needs quick fixes to the issues and return to their glory days.
