Oscar Piastri put forth a highly consistent performance at the Dutch GP and emerged victorious in the end. The Aussie achieved the grand slam following his stellar victory in Zandvoort. However, things didn’t go so well at Lando Norris‘ side as he suffered from a DNF in the main race. Norris’ McLaren challenger had an oil leak in the engine, which caused him to walk out of the weekend with zero points. Now, the 24-year-old revealed their relationship following the contrasting outing for both drivers.

Lando Norris walked out of the Dutch GP weekend by trailing Oscar Piastri by 34 points in the driver’s standings, as compared to the nine-point difference before the Zandvoort race. Piastri had already declared that all the races after the summer break would be a face-off between the two. Now, Norris seems to have already lost a lot of running after the disappointing DNF.

Oscar Piastri opened up on his relationship with Lando Norris following the circumstances at the Dutch GP. Piastri had previously mentioned that he had great relations with Norris and even had some fun activities during the race weekend. Hence, the 24-year-old insisted that his relationship with the Briton had not changed at all, regardless of the on-track shenanigans.

If anything, Oscar Piastri believes that the circumstances have helped them come closer than before and have an even better relationship. Piastri sympathized with his teammate, as he had to retire from the race without being at fault. The Australian declared that he was much closer to Lando Norris now and got on better with him as compared to the previous seasons.

The relationship between Lando and I has not changed. I think, if anything, we know each other better now and actually probably get on better than we did before we knew each other.

Ex-F1 driver claims Lando Norris’ DNF ‘helpful’ against Oscar Piastri

Lando Norris has lost a massive chunk of points in his championship ambitions against Oscar Piastri. After trailing the leader by 34 points, Norris will have to work extra hard in the final nine races to still stay in contention. Despite seemingly losing a lot, ex-F1 driver Ralf Schumacher shockingly claims that it is mentally ‘helpful’ for the 25-year-old.

Ralf Schumacher acknowledged that his take sounded crazy for a normal person, but he reflected that the Dutch GP DNF took a lot of pressure off Lando Norris’ shoulders. Schumacher noted that the DNF was not his fault and all that he can do in the remainder of the season is give it his all. Regardless, the German reiterated that it was mentally helpful for the 25-year-old in his championship battle against Oscar Piastri.

As crazy as it sounds, it takes a bit of pressure off his shoulders. The retirement was not his fault and all he can do is fight and hope that he can get the points back on the track and maybe have a bit of luck. I know it sounds weird, but it’s actually helpful for him mentally.

Ralf Schumacher told Sky Sports

The 2025 season is still far from over, and even a single DNF for Oscar Piastri could make all the difference in his championship hunt. Piastri has put forth one of the most consistent performances this season and will likely emerge victorious in the driver’s championship. However, it would be too soon to write off Lando Norris’ chances as anything can happen in the final nine races.
