The new police procedural, Ballard, hasn't even premiered, but the cast is ready for the long haul. Speaking to Men's Journal, the three primary cast members of Ballard, Maggie Q, John Carroll Lynch, and Courtney Taylor, feel that the new series could run for a long, long time. Maybe even longer than their parent show, Bosch.
"Season 10 is going to be the best ever," John Carroll Lynch tells Men's Journal of Ballard. In the forthcoming Season 1 of the show, Lynch plays seasoned cop Thomas Laffont, the eponymous Ballard's (Maggie Q) right-hand man. He brings a sort of cool uncle vibe to the show, and jokes that "Even if the show jumps the shark in Season 11, it will still be amazing."
As a spinoff of the beloved series Bosch (which was really two shows, Bosch and Bosch: Legacy), there's a bit of pressure on Ballard to carry the torch of the previous series, which, was also based on popular novels from thriller writer Michael Connelly.
"It really was lightning in a bottle," Maggie Q says. "The legwork was done in the casting, and it's a hundred percent an ensemble show." Her co-star, Courtney Taylor, agrees, saying, "It was important that we liked each other and enjoyed each other's company...even outside of our cop training, we got to know each other with little game nights."
So, if the Ballard cast feels very close-knit, there's a good reason for that. Q and the other cast were striving to imbue the show with not just a realistic feeling, but also, to give audiences a follow-up to Bosch that can live and breathe as its own story. And though Lynch was joking about the show lasting for 10 seasons or more, Q points out that she very much hopes that is the case.
"It's all going to depend on what the audiences think of what we've done," Q says. "I'm not going to pretend I know this industry anymore. But we have a great lineup for Season 2, story-wise. So, fingers crossed."
