Manchester United drew 1-1 against Fulham in the second matchweek of the 2025-26 Premier League season.
Man United scored in the 58th minute through an own goal from Rodrigo Muniz, while Fulham equalized in the 73rd minute through an Emile Smith Rowe goal. Manchester United are on one point after the first two games.
The game could've gone differently, especially since Bruno Fernandes had the opportunity to give Manchester United the lead in the first half. The Red Devils were awarded a penalty, and Fernandes stepped up to take it.
The Portuguese midfielder did not shoot on target as he skied the ball. Many noticed Fernandes and referee Chris Kavanagh bumping into each other. Fernandes was furious and had to reset his routine in preparation for the penalty kick.

Former Manchester United players Ashley Young and Gary Neville believed that the bump distracted Fernandes, which led to the miss, but the Man United captain takes full responsibility.

After the match against Fulham, Fernandes was asked about the penalty miss and was asked if the referee's accidental bump had a factor in the miss.
The Portuguese midfielder refused to suggest that the referee had anything to do with this miss.
Bruno Fernandes: "No, as like everyone you have your own routine. I was preparing myself to get the penalty. That put me a little bit off my nerves but it's not because of that why I missed the penalty. I missed because I kicked the ball very bad."
Fernandes revealed that he was upset with the referee because the official did not apologize. He insists once again that the official wasn't to blame for the penalty miss.
Bruno Fernandes: "I was upset. As a penalty-taker, you have your own routines, your own things that you do. It upset me because the referee didn't apologise. That is what triggered me in that moment, but that's not the excuse for missing the penalty. I had a very bad hit on the ball. I put my foot too under the ball and that's why it ended up going over the bar."
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was surprised by Fernandes' penalty miss and acknowledged that he usually doesn't miss penalties.
Amorim revealed that he could tell the penalty miss frustrated Fernandes as it could've led to the first three points for Man United this season.
Ruben Amorim: "I think he is not used to missing penalties. He knows the importance that this moment can have [and make a] huge impact on the team. During the game, he was not happy because he was not involved and he has so much responsibility, and I think he thought missing the penalty was huge for us."
