The Vancouver Canucks’ top blueliner is recognized for being one of the best defenders in hockey – both in the real world and virtually.
On Monday morning, EA Sports released the top 10 highest-rated left-handed defencemen in NHL 26. At the top of the list is Canucks captain Quinn Hughes, who’s listed as a 95 overall for the latest edition of the franchise.

It’s the second year in a row that Hughes was the top left-handed blueliner in the video game series. For NHL 25, in which Hughes was on the cover with brothers Luke and Jack of the New Jersey Devils, Quinn secured a 94 overall rating, second among all defencemen behind Colorado Avalanche star Cale Makar.
According to EA’s website, Hughes’ strengths come with his athleticism and offensive ability. His passing, agility and offensive awareness are all listed at 97, while his overall speed and puck control are up to a 96 rating.
Regarding his abilities in his own zone, Hughes has a defensive awareness of 93, but it is just an 83 for shot blocking and 86 at stick checking. Regardless, Hughes is going to be a useful player for all games thanks to his speed and puck-moving talents.
The 25-year-old has been one of the best defenders over the past few years in the league, establishing himself as one of the premier players in the NHL. His point production has been staggering, while his defensive play consistently places him in the Norris Trophy conversation.
Hughes is coming off a 2024-25 season that was rough for the player and the team in Vancouver. He remained one of the more efficient members of the team, even though he missed several games due to injury. The Orlando, Florida native scored 16 goals and 60 assists for 76 points in 68 games, still leading the team in scoring. It was good enough for third among defensive scoring, trailing Makar (92) and Werenski (82). In 433 career regular-season games, Hughes has potted 59 goals and 350 assists, sitting in a tie for the franchise lead for points by a defenceman with 409. Hughes has added another 26 points in 30 postseason affairs.NHL 26 is available to the masses on Sept. 12. Those who pre-order the Deluxe Edition have early access starting on Sept. 5.
