Florida State University has become the first Atlantic Coast Conference program to be fined under new event security rules after fans stormed the field following the Seminoles shocking upset of Alabama on August 30.

The ACC announced Monday that Florida State will incur a $50,000 fine for violating the league’s event security policy, which is designed to ensure the safety of players, coaches, officials, and fans.

All fines collected go to the Weaver-James-Corrigan-Swofford Postgraduate Scholarship Fund, supporting ACC student-athletes pursuing graduate education.

Seminoles Fans Take Over Bobby Bowden Field

Fans at Doak Campbell Stadium were treated to an unforgettable moment. Florida State, more than a two-touchdown underdog, stunned Alabama in what ranks among the program’s biggest upsets in history.

As the clock wound down, thousands of fans rushed Bobby Bowden Field in jubilation, weaving around security and the visiting team on their way to celebrate on the turf.

The fine stems from new ACC regulations introduced during the league’s July kickoff event.

The rules, now in effect for the 2025-26 academic year, explicitly require that “visiting team personnel and officials must have the opportunity to safely exit the competition area before spectators may access the competition area following a contest.”

Officials noted that while stadium security did their best to contain the crowd—keeping fans from parading the goal posts down Tennessee Street—the sheer volume of supporters made enforcing the rule impossible.

The ACC’s policy imposes escalating fines for repeated violations: $50,000 for a first offense, $100,000 for a second, and $200,000 for any subsequent infractions.

Despite the fine, the victory and the electric atmosphere in Florida State’s newly renovated stadium made the moment priceless for Seminoles fans.

The stadium re-opened with fewer seats than before, yet the energy inside rivaled any game in recent memory.

While field-storming may not be repeated this season, fans will remember the moment for years to come—and Florida State will go down in ACC history as the first school penalized under the new safety rules.
