The University of Idaho football team is bringing some serious spud pride to the field this weekend.
After a close loss to Washington State in their season opener, the Vandals will kick off their 2025 home schedule with a unique twist: brand-new alternate helmets inspired by Idaho’s most famous crop.
The Vandals announced Tuesday a partnership with The Field Rush to create the “Fightin’ Taters” helmet, which will make its debut when Idaho hosts St. Thomas on Saturday.
The helmet, decked out with potato-themed graphics, is part of a broader celebration of the Gem State’s agricultural roots.
Idaho isn’t stopping at helmets. The Idaho Potato Commission will be the lead sponsor of Saturday’s game, bringing along the state’s 70-foot-long Big Potato Truck and the beloved mascot Spuddy Buddy to the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.
Fans can expect a full potato-themed game day experience, complete with photo ops and plenty of potato giveaways.
Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. PT in Moscow, Idaho, as the Vandals look to bounce back from their narrow defeat to the Cougars.

While the “Fightin’ Taters” helmet is sure to grab attention on social media, Idaho coach Thomas Ford, hopes it also inspires the team to dig deep on the field.
Idaho’s home opener promises to be a mix of tradition, creativity, and a little potato-powered energy, giving fans more than just a game—they’ll get a true celebration of Idaho pride.
