Minnesota Wild Almost Landed JJ Peterka For Marco Rossi: Report

Before the Minnesota Wild and young center Marco Rossi agreed to a new contract earlier this week, the two sides were in a long stalemate over the talks. This led to all sorts of trade speculation since Minnesota wasn't budging on going past a certain number.

There is still some thought that the Wild could move Rossi down the line. But for now, he will be on the roster trying to help Minnesota go after the Stanley Cup this coming season.

But it seems that the Wild may have been able to land another young star if they had dealt Rossi. Minnesota and the Buffalo Sabres could have been solid trade partners, with JJ Peterka being mentioned as a possibility.

JJ Peterka Almost Traded to Minnesota Wild

According to NHL insider Jeff Marek, there was a lot of wonder about a possible Rossi for Peterka deal. Peterka was traded to the Utah Mammoth earlier in the offseason, but this would have been an interesting move.

Another insider, Pierre McGuire, also doubled down on this idea. McGuire said that he had heard this idea from multiple people around the league as well.

Last season, Rossi posted 24 goals and 36 assists over 82 games played. In comparison, Peterka put up 27 goals and 41 assists over 77 regular-season games played.

Peterka would have been a great addition for the Wild, but the team may be happy to keep Rossi around for now. Rossi showed real promise last season for Minnesota, and the team will be looking forward to seeing what else he can do.
