Who’s leading at the Genesis Scottish Open 2024 after Round 1?
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

The 2024 Genesis Scottish Open is going on and Justin Thomas leads the standings after Round 1. He fired an 8-under 62, just one shot shy of the course record.

Thomas took a one-stroke lead over Sungjae Im by making eight birdies without a single bogey. His approach shots were excellent throughout and he nearly added three shots to his total in that area.

This is Thomas’s first PGA Tour lead after a round since winning the PGA Championship in 2022. In 2024, he has consistently finished in the top ten, indicating great form.

Defending champion Rory McIlroy is also in the mix. He carded a 5-under 65 in his first start since the US Open. McIlroy started slowly but tightened up his game on the back nine.

Sungjae Im is alone in second place at 7-under. He recovered from a bogey on the first hole with a chip-in birdie on the second. The in-form Korean is looking for his third PGA Tour triumph this year.

Genesis Scottish Open 2024 Standings

Maximilian Kieffer, Haotong Li , and Thomas Detry are currently tied for third place at 6-under par. Li, a Chinese player, shot a surprise 64 for the day. Sweden’s rising talent Ludvig Aberg fired 64 and shared third place with the other three.

Rory McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, Corey Conners, and Collin Morikawa are all at 5-under par. Morikawa has been surprisingly steady, with a run of top-16 performances.

The competition included a unique and uncommon moment when Aberg’s shot accidentally struck Morikawa’s ball. This unforeseen event altered the leaderboard at the Genesis Scottish Open 2024.
