Gymnast Jordan Chiles' life has been a mixture of excitement and heartbreak since the 2024 Paris Olympics. After playing a huge role in helping Team USA secure the gold medal, she missed out on competing in the individual all-around final by .067 points.
Chiles won the bronze medal during the individual floor final after Team USA coach, Cecile Landi, noticed her difficulty score was incorrect. The judges agreed and changed Chiles' score from 13.666 to 13.766, cementing her third place finish.
However, following a highly controversial ruling by the Court of Arbitration (CAS), the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) reversed Chiles' score and awarded her bronze medal to Romania's Ana Barbosu.
While Chiles' lawyers filed an appeal a formal appeal with the Swiss Federal Tribunal, the 23-year-old is focused on remaining positive and figuring out her future.
Speaking at the Teen Vogue Summit 2024 on Nov. 23, in Los Angeles, she said the "biggest thing" for her is knowing that her name is "already a brand and just continuing to brand myself out."
While it's unclear if Chiles will return to compete at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, she announced a new major career move on Nov. 26.
In an exclusive interview with People, Chiles revealed she making her publishing debut and releasing a memoir entitled I'm That Girl.
Simone Biles, Chiles' best friend and teammate, wrote the forward of the book. While the memoir will detail the medal controversy from Paris, she also opens up about the “psychologically and physically demanding” aspects of gymnastics, "eating issues" since childhood, and the racism she experienced throughout her journey in the sport.
I'm That Girl, will be released on March 4, 2025 through Harper Influence, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, and is already available through preorder.
Chiles, who recently wrapped up her performances on the "Gold Over America Tour," which stopped in 30 cities across the nation, is also returning to UCLA to compete for the Bruin Gymnastics team in the 2025 NCAA season.
