2025 Injury Report: Updates on Kim, Lopez, Mayer

With a (mostly) full slate of games on July 25, there was plenty of injury-related news. The Rays placed Ha-Seong Kim back on the injured list after the shortstop missed the past few games with a back injury. And speaking of infielders, one of the Red Sox’s regular starters also went on the injured list on the 25th.

Kim back on IL

Tampa shuffled its roster around on July 25. Ha-Seong Kim went on the IL with a low back strain retroactive to July 22, while Jonny DeLuca was activated.

Kim was removed from the Rays’ game on the 21st.

Lopez progressing

The Twins are still without Pablo Lopez. However, he is progressing in his recovery from a Grade 2 teres major strain.

Lopez said he’s thrown on flat ground at around 100 feet, and could get to 120 feet this week. If it goes well, he could start throwing off the mound.

The Twins’ ace has been on the IL retroactive to June 4 and would be eligible to return in a little over a week’s time. But, that’s highly unlikely to occur. When Lopez went on the IL in June, the original diagnosis was eight to 12 weeks.

Additionally, the Twins placed reliever Anthony Misiewicz on the IL.

Mayer hits injured list

The Red Sox are down Marcelo Mayer, as Boston placed the rookie infielder on the injured list with a right wrist sprain.

It’s unknown what the severity is, as Mayer & the Sox are awaiting results of an MRI.

Rehab assignments

Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho went deep for Buffalo (AAA) on July 15, as he continues his rehab assignment.

Twins pitcher Bailey Ober struck out six over five innings for St. Paul (AAA). Ober threw 65 pitches in the outing.

Other injury news

San Francisco placed pitcher Landen Roupp on the IL with right elbow inflammation. The move is retroactive to July 23.

The Astros are down another starter, as Brandon Walter hit the injured list retroactive to July 24. Walter was placed on the IL with left elbow inflammation.

And for those who missed the news on the 24th, Orioles closer Felix Bautista landed on the IL yesterday with right shoulder discomfort.

Thairo Estrada (Rockies), Gabriel Arias (Guardians), Hunter Harvey (Royals), Austin Riley (Braves), and Sam Haggerty (Rangers) were activated off the injured list.
